Welcome to the September Technique Squad Blog Hop.  This month, we are featuring the Northern Lights technique.  I have never been lucky enough to see the Northern Lights in person, but am hopeful that I will during one of my camping trips along the north shore of Lake Superior.  If not, perhaps once I retire, I can head up that way when the Northern Lights are predicted to put on a show!  

I tried several different ways to create this image - water color brushes, blending brushes, sponges, regular card stock, pearlescent specialty paper, and shimmer paper.  I also tried several different color combinations.  For me, the best combination was the Basic White Card Stock, Blending Brushes, and a combination of Daffodil Delight, Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay, and Night of Navy Ink. 

I made this card using the Penguin Place stamp set and Embossing paste.  Although I did not plan it, I really like how the Northern Lights "reflect" in the snow.  Call it a happy little accident!

The second card I made is similar, but uses the Snowman Season stamp set.  To create the snow, I simply tore Basic White card stock at different angles and layers it onto the card base.  I did add a bit of Wink of Stella right along the torn edges to add a bit of sparkle.

I was curious to see how this would work on designer series paper, so I made a couple more cards using this technique.  These next cards feature the Peaceful Place designer series paper.  I chose this paper because I thought the embossed silver images would work well with this technique.  I think this might be might favorite card.  It gives me a real sense of peace and quiet.

My last card once again features the Peaceful Place Designer Series Paper, but also uses the Be Dazzled used the Be Dazzling Specialty Paper that I colored with Bermuda Bay.  This card also features the lighthouse from the Smooth Sailing dies.  This card is rather sparkly, but I think you can see the Northern Lights dancing in the sky.
