January Technique Blog Hop

Technique Squad

Welcome to the January 2022 Technique Squad Blog Hop.  This month, each participant picked their own technique to present.  Be sure to click on the next button below to see all the amazing projects.  This month, I am showing you how to make a Faux Shaker card.  They have all the glitz and glamour of a Shaker card, but are much easier and quicker to make.  I have done my best to list the steps to make this card, but you may find it easier to watch my video.  I have provided a link towards the end of this blog.

Pastel Card - Watermark

My card features the Sweet Conversations stamp set, the Sweet Heart dies, and the Sweet Talk Designer Series Paper.  I discovered all of my sequins in the colors that I wanted to use were the self-adhesive sequins.  So, I simply cut 1/8" strips of card stock and snipped them into little pieces.  I used the Sweet Heart dies and silver foil to add some shiny heart shapes.  This took no time to create and allowed me to coordinate my shaker pieces with my project.

To make this card, layer the 3.75" x 5" piece of designer series paper onto a layer of coordinating card stock that measures 4" x 5.25".  Add any extra decorations, die cuts, or punched items to this layer.  Insert this into a medium clear envelope, making sure that the bottom and end of the card are snug in the corner (be sure that the front of the layer is facing the non-flap side of the envelope).  Add your shaker material to the envelope, keeping it all on the front side of the card layer.

Remove the protective strip from the flap and fold it down on the back so that it is snug to the edge of the card layer.  Add a piece of tear and tape to extra envelope along the back of the card and fold this flap down so it is snug to the card layer.  When you are done, the card layer should be snug in the envelope and all the folds and adhesive should be on the back side.

Using tear and tape, attach this layer to the front of the card base.  Decorate the front of the card as desired.  I love the little envelope die that is part of the Sweet Heart dies.

Adhere the layer to the inside of the card and your Faux Shaker card is ready to send.  I have found that these cards are typically flatter than a regular shaker card and do not require extra postage.  However, be sure to check before you mail.

This card is quite easy to make.  However, it may be easier to learn if you see it done.  I have created a short video, which you can watch by clicking here.

I hope you enjoyed my card.  Be sure to hop over to see all the other creations from the amazing demonstrators participating in this blog hop.  To view Vy Tran's creation, click the next button.
