April 2021 Technique Squad Blog Hop - Stained Glass Technique

Welcome to the April 2021 Technique Squad Blog Hop.  Thank you so much for joining me and my fellow demonstrators today.  This month's theme is the Stained Glass Technique.  I hope you enjoy learning about this technique as much as I enjoyed creating my examples.  There are several variations of the Stained Glass Technique.  I chose to use heat embossing, ink, and vellum paper to create my stained glass images.

To create my card, I used the large magnolia stamp from the Good Morning Magnolia stamp set.  I stamped the image on vellum paper using my Versa Mark ink pad.  After stamping the image, I used black embossing powder and my heat tool to create the embossed image.  I used my Dark Mossy Meadow and Light Melon Mambo Stampin' Blends to color my image.  I colored both the front and back side of the vellum paper.  This creates a darker color on the vellum paper, resulting in a more brilliant stained glass look.

I was not sure which color of embossing powder would give me the best look, so I repeated the above steps, but used white embossing powder instead.  When using white embossing powder, I only color on the backside of the vellum.  The blends will stain the white heat embossed areas.  You will get a softer look just coloring on the back side and you do not risk getting ink onto the white embossed areas.

As long as I had my heat tool out, I decided to also use clear embossing powder.  Although clear embossing powder is extremely useful, I do not think it is a good option for this technique!  It was very hard to see the embossed image, so coloring was a challenge.  I included this image today so you could see the difference.

Once I was done coloring my image, I used the coordinating Magnolia Memories dies and die cut the large magnolia from Basic White card stock.  I placed glue dots on the back of the vellum image and attached it to the Basic White card stock.  I think this step really enhances the color of your stain glass image!

To create my cards, I used a 5.5" x 8.5" piece of Mossy Meadow card stock, scored at 4.25".  I layered a 4" x 5.25" piece of Melon Mambo card stock onto the card base.  This layer was followed by a 3.75" x 5" piece of Basic White cardstock that I embossed with the Subtle Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  I used the Hello sentiment from the Good Morning Magnolia stamp set and Mossy Meadow ink to create the sentiment.  Finally, I used the Mossy Meadow 3/16" Braided Linen Trim to create a double bow to finish off my cards.  (Note: The Good Morning Magnolia stamp set, Magnolia Memories dies and Subtle Embossing folder are some of my favorites items in the annual catalog.  They are retiring at the end of this catalog (May 3, 2021) and are currently on the retiring items sales list.  These items were still available as of April 15th.  However, they are only available as supplies last, so if you like these items, please be sure to order them right away!
